No Show Earl (Upper West Side, Manhattan)

The only sign of Hurricane Earl in Manhattan was a gray sky in late afternoon.

U.S. Open (Flushing Meadows, Queens)

Mardy Fish in the process of winning against Pablo Cuevas (7-5, 6-0, 6-2) in the Louis Armstrong Stadium at the U.S. Open. It was over 90 degrees today but my son and I were happy to be there.
A passerby looks for a seat.
Sania Mirza of India confers with her doubles partner Vera Dushevina of Russia. They eventually lost (6-7, 6-2, 7-6) to Alisa Kleybanova and Ekaterina Makarova, both of Russia. I find it fascinating that, as a myopic American, I've never heard of any of these women and yet according to their web sites they're superstars in their home countries, earning millions of dollars from their tennis careers.

London Calling

I'm pleased to record for posterity that, after a year of marriage, six months of living in London, three plus weeks vacationing in the U.S., a few days in New York, and an hour and a half dining with my husband and me, the charming and smart social worker/good government duo otherwise known as Robin and Aubrey are still smiling.

Get more NYC, as long as you don't mind being watched
(and please don't stand here).
If you can still see the sign that says "If You See Something, Say Something," say something.
Why does this sign cost $39.99?
(Note: "$7,000" is written on this, alas, empty envelope.)
