The Birth of a Bike Lane (5th Avenue, Manhattan)
Like a kid with crayons, street-makers stencil in the crosswalks and bike lanes before they paint the final lines.

Riverside Park, Manhattan
I was with my son in Riverside Park today and started snapping photos of people passing. It's interesting to see some people are alone, some are obviously traveling together and still others end up in the frame together--the photo forever links them--but they are strangers and perhaps didn't even notice each other's presence. I also used a function on the camera to swap out the color of the sky for the color of the grass and the color of my pink Mexican shopping bag.

Upper West Side, Manhattan
Broadway between 97th and 104th was closed to regular traffic on and off today to film a chase scene (involving a motorcycle chasing a bike messenger) for a movie called "Premium Rush." I was too impatient to wait around to watch them film but I walked briefly among the many extras, faux cabs, crew members and cops (ready to stop traffic) who were waiting for the director to shout "Action."
The (stunt?) messenger.

The bike and camera (swaddled against the rain and mounted to the trunk of a car).
Faux traffic waiting for the cameras to roll.

Park Avenue, Manhattan

Score one for Bloomberg. Park Avenue was closed to traffic for the third and final time this summer. Bikes and joggers ruled the road!!

Hells Kitchen, Manhattan
Did a carbon-spewing vehicle mangle this environmentally friendly form of
transportation? I find myself disturbed and a bit awed at how easily the
bike appears to have crumpled.
